Briefly describe the meaning of the day of Pentecost

List two or three of Peter’s teachings on this day
- Acts 2:17 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams” God’s presence will return in the last days, and the people will prophesy of his coming.
- Acts 2: 21 “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” If we put our faith in the Lord and follow his commandments and example then we will be saved.
- Baptism
- Repentance
Peter fulfilled his role as a witness of Jesus Christ by following in the saviors footsteps and teaching others the importance of repentance and the gospel. He witnessed and received special revelation from the savior, and then passed on the revelation and the importance of baptism to the people. He testified about the power of repentance and baptism.
What gifts of the spirit were made manifest on the day of Pentecost?
The apostles began to speak with different tongues (different languages other-than their own known languages) according as the spirit, which they had just received, was giving them the words to speak-out. They had seen tongues as-though of fire and so they knew to speak. They spoke what their spirit was continuing to give them to speak.
Baptism and Repentance were also made manifest on this day.
How did the people respond to what occurred on this day?
Acts 2: 41 “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls”. The people accepted the idea of repentance and baptism and then were baptized and received the gift of the holy ghost.
