Unit 2 Choice 6 Hebrews 3-4  Entering into the Lord’s rest.

1. What group of people was refused entrance into the Lord’s rest?

The people that were refused entrance into the Lord’s rest were the children of Israel who hardened their hearts and could not endure his presence. Also  it included those who have an evil heart of unbelief.

2. What sins caused them to forfeit this privilege?

They gave into the teachings of others that didn’t revolve around worshiping God and His Son. In summary, they put others before the Lord, and didn’t practice what they knew to be true.

3. How does D&C 84: 23-24 help define what is the Lord’s rest?

These verses explain that the Lord’s rest is the fullness of His glory. It says that when the people harden their hearts and do not endure to His presence, they will not enter into His rest.

4. What sins did Paul repeatedly warn against so as not to incur the same punishment?

The main sin that Paul warned against was to not give in to any other doctrine and go against the ways of the truth that we have. He warned that we must cling to the word of God and his son, and to not stray away from those teachings.

5. How do you think the warnings in Hebrews 3:12-15 apply to us?

These verses easily apply to us because they talk about people leaving the church and not following the right path. They go on to say that we need to be steadfast in what we do and be strong in our beliefs. That really is what we need to do today because our world is becoming such a corrupted place to live in and we need to hold to the rod that leads us back to our Heavenly Father.

6. List the counsel found in Hebrews 4 that will help a person enter into the rest of the Lord.

The counsels that will help a person enter into the rest of the Lord are believing in Christ and practicing the truth that they know, they need to work hard to enter into the rest,  and not give into the temptation of unbelief. Basically we need to do what we know is right, and follow the word of God.

7. How do Matthew  7:21; John 7:17; and James 1:22 help in understanding how the word needs to be “mixed with faith”? Hebrews 4:2-3.

We cannot just hear the words of Christ and expect to be saved. These verses help explain that the word needs to be “mixed with faith” by telling us that we must act upon the words we hear and continuously practice the teachings we learn by following the Lord’s example.

I read the assigned reading, and also went to lds.org for reference as well.

Why did you decide to do the assignment you did?

I thought it looked like a good opportunity to think about these different scenarios and come to understand what I would do in each one.

What do you think is the best thing about your assignment, and how do you think it could be improved?

I think my assignment was pretty informative and well detailed. I could have included more scripture references to make it even stronger. Not much room for improvement I think.
